Baskets, Baskets and More Baskets!

*Hip Hopping Word Families - Students take “word labeled” jellybeans out of the bunny basket (cut down a brown paper lunch bag and attach laminated bunny - easy storage...fold and save for next Spring) and organize according to each word ending.  Put all of the -ip words on the candy jar with -ip and the -op words on the -op jar.  Once organized on the candy jar boards, then record words on the -ip/-op sheet.  Students can play individually or in small groups.  It worked well in small groups because the students evenly passed out the jellybeans and then sounded out the words to each other.   Edible jelly beans are optional :)

*Butterfly Baskets - Pick a butterfly and use it as a prompt for writing about Spring.  Color the butterfly and then glue onto the small butterfly on the writing paper.  Bend wings so that it is 3-dimensional and write about Spring!
Writing Center - Butterfly prompts...

The Golden Egg Book by Margaret Wise Brown

We read The Golden Egg Book by Margaret Wise Brown and had the students make predictions where the little bunny snuggles up against the egg...just before it hatches.   After sharing their predictions, we finished reading the story.  Each student chose an egg with an existing colorful shell.  The students decided what was going to hatch from their egg and drew it inside of the shell.  Once the inside was done, they used scraps to design a pattern and decorate the outside of their egg.  As a follow-up activity, the students came up with clues to help the class guess what was inside of their egg.
